W.frei ag was founded in 1967 by Walter Frei Senior and Clara Frei in the Swiss town of Jona, where the company is still located today. Starting with repairs and overhauls for electrical machines, the service was expanded to include control systems for drives and electrotechnical equipment.
Following some major orders, the company decided to manufacture its own chokes and coils and to produce its own cables. The newly founded "Production" department ensured efficient and high-quality manufacturing. The Geberit Tool Service Centre, where among other activities the electric welding equipment is repaired, was later put into operation as a third mainstay. The first of these devices were developed and manufactured over 50 years ago by Walter Frei Sen. at Walter Frei AG.
a.merki ag has been part of w.frei ag since 2017. This expands the range to include mechanical machining and metal cutting for all materials. State-of-the-art 5-axis machines and CNC lathes enable us to repair and manufacture shafts and other mechanical components within a short time.
